England, Germany qualify for World Cup

England, who lead Group F on 20 points, will seal a spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation if they beat third-placed Slovenia at Wembley.

The England boss is determined to test his players as much as possible before the tournament next summer in an effort to bring them up to standard.

"Whoever wears the armband, there's plenty of us who will speak up and try and help each other. and when things get tough we will be there for each other", he said.

Sterling could replace Tottenham Hotspur forward Dele Alli in the England starting side after the 21-year-old received a one-match suspension for a rude gesture during last month's 2-1 win over Slovakia at Wembley. City have impressed in Europe as well, with two wins from two to top their UEFA Champions League group.

"We've qualified with a game to go".

"They might not have the numbers, but when they put 16 or 17 together, they've got a right good side".

"Harry won't feel it as a burden, it won't carry any weight and he will carry on scoring goals for England".

While the quality of the performances has left a lot to be desired, England have developed a knack of scoring late goals throughout the qualifying campaign - namely a last-ditch victor away to Slovakia, a late Kane equaliser in Scotland and now the England captain's last-gap intervention at Wembley.

"There are one or two players we're definitely going to have a look at and it's one of few games we have now to build towards the World Cup".

Kane will captain England for the third time on Thursday night and is looking to become only the third player to score in each of his first three games as captain.

England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales are all in World Cup qualifying action over the next four nights with all those countries still harbouring hopes of reaching the finals in Russian Federation next summer.

England will host Slovenia at 19:45 BST on Thursday 5 October 2017.

"It was imperative. They have to go to a World Cup".
