'The man detained by officers is now under arrest and is in custody at a north London police station.

Video captured on scene showed a man on the ground being detained by by a group of people. Police are seeking to establish "the circumstances and motive" for the incident, which was reported at 2:21pm.

A number of people are now being treated for minor injuries. The Exhibition road has been closed for now, confirmed a Twitter user Matt Watkins.

Workers in a cafe near London's Natural History Museum say they fled the scene in panic after a vehicle hit pedestrians in the street outside.

He told the MailOnline the man was "screaming", adding: "I got out and grabbed him - three of us grabbed him - and someone phoned the police".

London Ambulance Service says 11 people were injured Saturday afternoon after they were hit by a auto.

The accident at 2:20 p.m. outside the popular Natural History Museum in the heart of central London brought a big police response, including helicopters and hazardous area response teams, because of terrorist concerns.
