Rain intervenes after India run through middle order

Australia have not really set the stage on fire but they have made sure to score at good pace.

The visitors were rocked in the very first over of their innings when Warner chopped on a Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivery onto his stumps. But like always, he is on target.

Glenn Maxwell couldn't play himself into form, struggling for his 17. But it was the batting that led them down, especially the collapse that we have seen so often after Finch's wicket. Two fours in an over for him as he keeps the Australian scorecard ticking.

WICKET! Early breakthrough! Chopped on! . At home, India are yet to lose a T20I versus David Warner's side. Fine start for India.

India won the toss and elected to field first against Australia in the first T20 match of the three matches series, which is to be played at Ranchi's JSCA Stadium Complex. Australia are likely to hand Jason Behrendorff a T20I debut, while India would gladly welcome Ashish Nehra back to the team.

Australia will miss captain Steve Smith after he was ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against India due to shoulder injury.

Australian cricketer David Warner walks back to the pavilion after being bowled out by India's Bhuvneshwar Kumar, right, during their first T20 cricket match in Ranchi, India, Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. Only Tim Paine (17) managed to cross the double-digit mark as Australia were reduced to 118 for eight in 18.4 overs when rain arrived.

Nathan Coulter-Nile bowled Rohit Sharma (11) but it would be the only wicket to fall in the brief chase. Skipper Kohli, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya are expected to be a part of the middle order. KL Rahul has been chosen ahead of Ajinkya Rahane despite the latter slamming four successive ODI fifties.

The skipper's absence will be a huge blow for the Australian side, who were humiliated in the recently concluded ODI series. When Kane Richardson was missing in the 5th ODI, the lack of intensity was manifested in the bowling department as spells from Cummins & Coulter Nile alone couldn't enforce the pressure on India.
