Nick Kyrgios 'finds life purpose' by helping children

NICK Kyrgios' goal of qualifying for the season-ending ATP finals is alive after beating Alexander Zverev to reach the China Open final.

Nadal defeated Nick Kyrgios on Sunday (8 October) to emerge victorious in Beijing for the first time since 2005, bagging his sixth title of the year in the process.

Kyrgios' frustrations began in the opening game of the first set when he bemoaned his fortune after a line judge incorrectly ruled a groundstroke had landed out with the Australian at break point on Nadal's serve.

"He just destroyed me today, so it was too good", Kyrgios, who struck 20 winners but 35 unforced errors, said.

The Spaniard remains unbeaten since he became world number one in August and put in a ruthless display on his way to his 75th career title.

In the women's single final earlier on Sunday, France's Caroline Garcia beat new world number one Simona Halep 6-4 7-6 (7-3) for her second successive title after victory at the Wuhan Open. Now riding a 12-match win streak, it's Nadal's first title in the post-US Open portion of the season since winning Tokyo in 2010, where he also saved match point en route to the title. The victory also allowed him to surpass 60 wins in a season for the ninth time. That's important for me.

Kyrgios was angered by a line call in the first set and his complaints eventually cost him a penalty point at the start of the eighth game.

The 22-year-old Australian was upset with a call in the first game and appeared unable to let it go after that, earning a warning and then a penalty point.

The 26-year-old Halep had the superior mobility - Garcia had her right thigh strapped - but the French player was making the better shots. I think I've found my objective in the last couple of months.

In 2005 I never will believe that I will keep playing tennis in 2017", Nadal said after the match, "the feeling is probably better this year.
