Irate Pochettino snaps back at Guardiola over his 'Harry Kane team' comment

Mauricio Pochettino fires back at Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City boss called Spurs the "Harry Kane team".

Pochettino finds the Citizens manager's comments disrespectful to his men and says that he never claimed Guardiola's Barcelona outfit were a one-man team with Lionel Messi, when in their pomp.

Guardiola made the dig after Manchester City's win at Chelsea on September 30 while listing his side's title rivals.

Speaking to reporters today, Pochettino admitted that he personally took no offence to the remarks but described them as "unnecessary" and "disrespectful" to his players and fans.

"I don't know why he said it, why he showed too much respect to Manchester United because in the same way he could have said "Lukaku team". But I think many people took those words as very disrespectful for the club, and for many players here I think it's a odd situation.

"I respect a lot what Tottenham have done in the last two or three years, a lot of credit [to them] in the way they play and the way they show football in the Premier League - the way he proposes, always attacking".

"I give a lot of credit about Tottenham".

"We need to move on".

As to whether they French club might sell the defensive midfielder, Vasilyev said: "We are very happy that we managed to keep him... but we realise in Monaco we have a certain model, that at a certain moment when we feel it's right, we have to let players go in order to be successful again".

"It's a sad comment", he had concluded.

Kane had a remarkable period in September as he netted six goals in four games for Tottenham Hotspur after failing to score in August.

Pochettino was asked whether he had spoken to Guardiola about the comment.

Plus a little video from the press conference. "I am sure I will reply", the 45-year-old concluded. But it's sad. A sad comment. Of course. We have a very good relationship. Mikel Arteta, Lorenzo Buenaventura, Edu Mauri - people that are on his staff [at City] are very good friends of mine from before they worked for him. "He's a great manager, one of the best managers in the world, so why make that comment?"

"But I said it because he scored two goals more against Huddersfield and a goal for the national team and another goal for the national team". "Why? Because I understand him very well". It's important now for us and for him to try to be fit and be available to help the team.
