Police identify suspect in viral Carolina Panthers assault

The Panthers say they've identified the Carolina fan who assaulted another fan during Thursday night's game against the Eagles.

As the second quarter of Thursday Night Football was nearing a close, Kuechly was rushing off the edge when he took a shot to the shoulder from an Eagles offensive lineman. David Mayo took over for him in the middle and would continue to do so if Kuechly can't go next week. The Panthers linebacker missed the final six games of the 2016 season after suffering a concussion in Week 10 previous year.

The star linebacker immediately rushed into the locker room after the hit, where he would stay indefinitely. He also left a Week 3 game against the Giants early because of an ankle injury.

The injury is potentially bad news for a player who has a history with concussions.

If Kuechly has indeed suffered his third concussion in the same number of years, it may cast a shadow of doubt on the rest of his season, or possibly even his career.

If Kuechly misses any substantial time, that would be a devastating loss for the Panthers.

The ugly scene that played out in the nosebleed section of Bank of America Stadium has since attracted the attention of local police and the Panthers organization.
