BSNL, Micromax launch Bharat 1 4G VoLTE feature phone at Rs 2200

The phone comes with unlimited calling & unlimited data offer from BSNL at Rs. 97 per month. The device will be available from October 20.

Micromax has launched its much-awaited Bharat 1 4G VoLTE feature phone in the Indian market.

Earlier, Jio had launched its affordable feature phone in India at Rs 1,500 will be refunded after 3 years and last week Karbonn, partnering with Airtel launched its 4G smartphone A40 Indian at Rs 1,399. The advanced 4G phone has a 2.4-inch display and is powered by a Snapdragon processor. For photography, it has a basic VGA selfie camera, and a 2-megapixel camera at the back. The Bharat 1 phone has dual SIM slots and is fueled by a 2,000mAh battery.

The featurephone, which comes at a slightly higher price competition to Reliance Industries JioPhone, runs on a open source version of Android and has Micromax's own browser and entertainment services like Live TV, music and videos in partnership with Zenga. It is also a dual SIM one and can be used with other operators, as the device is not locked with BSNL.

Speaking on the occasion, telecom minister Manoj Sinha said the partnership with Micromax would increase BSNL's subscribers and strengthen the financial position.

Rahul Sharma, Co-founder Micromax, "BSNL is one of the major service providers in the country and has a vast reach and network that spreads across every nook & corner of the country". The Bharat 1 handset rivals Reliance Jio's Jio Phone, and the low-priced smartphone by Karbonn Mobiles and Airtel.

Users will not be restricted to BSNL's network in this Micromax phone. So, it is no surprise that the Bharat-1 costs only Rs 2,200.

Both Micromax and BSNL will work collaboratively to introduce the best consumer mobile experience, the company said. "We will now take this vision forward with Bharat 1 and create a compelling proposition for the users that is a first in the category".

The phone also supports 22 different languages.

"The launch of "Bharat 1", powered by Qualcomm 205 mobile platform will usher a new era by providing access to 4G, VoLTE, payments and new opportunities to millions of users in India", said Larry Paulson, Vice President and President, Qualcomm India.
