Bill O'Reilly's Lawyer Slams Latest NYT Report

Before Bill O'Reilly signed a four-year extension to his contract with Fox News, the host struck a $32 million agreement with a Fox News network analyst to settle new sexual harassment allegations, according to The New York Times.

The Times characterized the sum to Wiehl as "extraordinarily large".

Here are the facts: after the Chairman of Fox News Roger Ailes was sacked in July 2016, dozens of women accused scores of male employees of Fox News of harassment - including the current co-president of Fox News Jack Abernathy.

Meetings with individuals acquainted with the settlement, and reports acquired by The New York Times, demonstrate how the organization attempted and at last neglected to contain the second flood of a sexual harassment emergency that at first burst into general visibility the past summer and cost the Fox News executive, Roger Ailes, and in the long run Mr. O'Reilly, their occupations. She left at the time of the settlement.

The Times' reported Fox executives knew of the settlement, but not the details, and made a calculated business decision to renew O'Reilly's contract, which came after Megyn Kelly departed the network, as part of an effort to revitalize the network after it was rocked by the Roger Ailes scandal. Then he made his own deal to stay with the network for $25 million a year.

Early that month, The Times gave an account of five settlements including Mr. O'Reilly, driving promoters to blacklist his show and generating challenges requiring his ouster.

O'Reilly told the Times, "I never mistreated anyone", but wanted to handle things privately to protect his kids.

If the Times's figure is accurate, the latest settlement exceeds all of the previous agreements between O'Reilly and his accusers. She agreed not to sue Mr. O'Reilly, Fox News or 21st Century Fox and that all photos, text messages and other communications between the two would be destroyed.

O'Reilly, host of The O'Reilly Factor, was ousted from the news channel in April amid reports he'd settled multiple suits to the tune of $13 million.

Weinstein, 65, who was sacked by production company Miramax and suspended by the board of the Oscars, has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone.

Wiehl had alleged that O'Reilly sent her gay pornography and other sexually explicit material, and accused him of repeated harassment, according to the Times report.

Wiehl appeared regularly on O'Reilly's program for 15 years, and said in her affidavit that she had worked with him, socialized with him and offered legal advice over an 18-year period.

In its first article about Mr. O'Reilly on April 1, The New York Times printed inaccurate settlement figures while fully understanding that O'Reilly and his counsel are legally bound by confidentiality and can not set the record straight. Fox News paid the other three.
