Conte insists Luiz omission in United win was tactical

David Luiz appears to be facing uncertainty at Chelsea after manager Antonio Conte refused to comment on the defender's long-term future at the club.

The Brazil global did not even make the bench as Andreas Christensen was handed a start, with rumours of a rift with Conte being the reason for his omission circulating around social media.

Cameras caught the Brazilian looking rather glum in the stands having not even made the bench, while Andreas Christensen took his place in the starting XI.

"I must take the best decision for the club, not for a single player".

FC runs through the five most significant conflicts Conte has become involved in during his time at Chelsea.

Chelsea now head into the worldwide break on the back of their win over Jose Mourinho's men and Christensen has key World Cup qualifying action on the agenda with Denmark.

He's now out of the picture, but Luiz regularly stepped in to defend his close friend and acted as a peacemaker, which the centre-back thinks Conte is now punishing him for.

According to The Times, Luiz feels that his friendship with Costa, who infamously fell out with Conte before being sold this summer, is the cause of the rift.

"The coach has to make the best decision for the team, and tonight the best decision for the team was to play with Christensen and to have, on the bench, (Ethan) Ampadu".

"I have to make important decisions". Maybe in the future I can decide in a different way, or continue in this way.

The Italian added: "This can happen to every one of my players, if I see that they are not in good form. I was very happy for this", Conte said in the press conference following the win over United.

DAVID LUIZ still managed to smile - despite Antonio Conte plunging his Chelsea future into doubt. "But I do the best things for my team".

"No. [checks]. I think that I have a squad".
