Robinho Sentenced To Nine Years In Prison

Brazilian footballer Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in jail after an Italian court found the former Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan player guilty of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman in a Milan nightclub in 2013. The married forward along with five other men have been charged.

Under Italian law he won't be sentenced until the appeals process has been finalised - which could take years.

Robinho, who now plays for Athletico Mineiro in his homeland, has been capped 100 times as an global player for Brazil, also having become the Premier League's most expensive star when he signed for Man City in 2008 for £32.5m.

Robinho released a statement on his Instagram page stating that he had "already defended himself against the accusations, affirming that he did not participate in the episode" and that "all legal measures are being taken".

Robinho began his career with Santos before leaving Brazil in 2005 for a three-year spell with Madrid.

He then went on loan to Santos before eventually joining Milan.

Robinho had previously been accused of sexual assault while at City in 2009, but was later cleared.
