Market gains for 7th session, Sensex up 91 pts

The benchmark BSE Sensex and the Nifty50 extended their gains to a sixth successive session yesterday, adding 26.53 points and 6.45 points, respectively.

There was a lot of buzz all through Friday that global rating agency S&P will revise India's sovereign rating on Friday. For the whole week, the Sensex jumped 336.44 points, or 1per cent, while the Nifty rallied 106.10 points, or 1.03 per cent. "Major Asian markets ended on a positive note while European indices like CAC 40 and DAX traded higher", Deepak Jasani, Head, Retail Research, HDFC Securities, told IANS.

The BSE market breadth was bullish - 1,510 advances and 1,225 declines.

The BSE mid-cap closed higher by 0.58 per cent while the small-cap index was up 0.45 per cent.

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 222.21 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) purchased equities worth a net Rs 73.22 crore, as per provisional data.

Besides the metal stocks, all other sectoral indices were positive with IT and bank sectors setting the trend.

The Sensex was trading higher in afternoon trade with Nifty too in the green in afternoon trade on Thursday.

The big movers that supported the key indices include Bajaj Auto, Infosys, Kotak Bank and Reliance Industries, rising by up to 1.64 per cent.
