Embassy transfer expected following Pence's United Nations speech

Meanwhile, Iranian officials continue vowing to destroy both Israel and the U.S. Despite those very real threats, Israeli U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon said Israel will continue to be "a light to the nations". It would also force the Arabs and the Palestinians to wake up from a long-harbored fantasy that they could disassociate Israel and the Jewish people from Jerusalem.

He said America "stands with Israel because her cause is our cause, her values are our values, and her fight is our fight". He also said that "the days of Israel-bashing at the United Nations are over".

Trump campaigned on a promise to move the embassy, but has walked back from the pledge as president.

"While for the past 20 years, Congress and successive administrations have expressed a willingness to move our embassy, as we speak, President Donald Trump is actively considering when and how to move the American Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem", Pence said at an event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the United Nations vote on the Partition Plan.

"While, for the past 20 years, Congress and successive administrations have expressed a willingness to move our embassy, as we speak, President Donald Trump is actively considering when and how to move the American embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem", Pence said. "He doesn't think the timing is right, right now". After Trump signed the waiver in June, various administration officials said moving the embassy was a matter of "when, not if". The Palestinians claim East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state, while Israel has declared the entire city as its capital. Since that year, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Trump all signed waivers. "This is our solemn promise to you, to Israel and to the world".

US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin also was present.

On Wednesday, Hadashot television news reported that in Israel, "there is a very high expectation" that Trump will declare that he "formally recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and instructing his team to actively prepare to move the embassy".

The vice president also talked about the US -led Iranian nuclear deal, saying the administration is working with Congress "to overcome some of the Iran deal's most glaring problems".

"In recent months we've made valuable achievements toward achieving that and while compromise will be necessary, you can be assured that Donald Trump will never compromise the safety and security of the Jewish State of Israel", he said.
