White House Bars One of Few Black Journalists From Attending Christmas Party

According to the White House website, the decorations include 53 massive Christmas trees festooned with over 12,000 ornaments and 18,000 lights, while the biggest tree stands at 18ft and boasts the seals of all 50 U.S. states.

But the real fun was reserved for the decorations, particularly this photograph of a long dark corridor lined with white Christmas trees that was shared on twitter by the First Lady's director of communications.

Nearby was the Trump family Christmas card, along with cards from past presidents.

First Lady Melania Trump proudly showed off DC's newest winter wonderland to children from Joint Base Andrews Monday. Ryan serves as one of just a half-dozen or so black White House press correspondents, and has interviewed former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. "@WhiteHouse is ready to celebrate!"

"Her theme is "Time-Honored Traditions", which the White House said pays respect to 200 years of holiday traditions at the executive mansion".

"She really does look like an angel", they proclaimed.

"On behalf of my husband and Barron, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and joyous holiday season", the first lady added.

The first lady's office says the decorations are meant to honor traditions of the past.

"Beautiful job of decorating our attractive White House".

"Are you the first lady?" asked one incredulous boy who then moved in for a hug.

Jennifer Pickens, an expert on White House traditions, predicted that this year's window wreaths will become a tradition for future first ladies. The White House said Melania Trump chose every detail of the design.

The holiday celebrating begins later Monday with a party for the volunteer decorators and will continue well into December with receptions and parties - sometimes two a day - for the next several weeks.

More than 25,000 visitors are expected to tour the White House for the holidays and the kitchen is ready: 31,000 cookies have been baked, including 15,000 sugar cookies, many of which end up in purses for the trip home.
