YouTube's new Reels feature will let you publish stories ala Instagram

Facebook took Snapchat's prime feature, and marketed it in the most successful way possible. With Reels, creators can communicate with fans by shooting short impromptu videos that won't automatically expire.

Reels appears to act more as an add-on feature to a creator's main channel, similar to the social-media-style features in the Community tab that YouTube launched a year ago for select creators. YouTube allows the Story to be live for any time period, there's no time limit of 24 hours as like in the case of stories. Reels also can include links to longer YouTube videos, and will let creators apply filters and add music tracks, text and stickers to their videos, Variety reported. The YouTube Community expansion comes a few days after YouTube Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan confirmed that the feature was set to hit more YouTube content creators soon. YouTube doesn't provide a time frame for when it expects to introduce Reels to all of its creators. "Reels are YouTube's spin on the popular "stories" format, but designed specifically for YouTube creators", said the company's blog post. We learned that you want the flexibility to create multiple Reels and have them not expire, so we'll give you those options. Reels is now in beta mode and the final product is expected to launch soon, but after proper experimentation. According to YouTube people wants to share stuff on the YouTube without the hassle of following the traditional ways of making a YouTube video.

According to TechCrunch, Reels will be given their own tab in the YouTube mobile app. Fans can now see Community posts in their home feeds, even if they aren't subscribed to the creator's channel. Notifications are also optimized so that users will not be spammed with every update. You can also enable push notifications for Community posts to let your fans stay up to date with your announcements.
