Asking people not to panic in case of a cyclone alert, the NDMA said that fishermen along and off Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu coasts should not venture into sea from December 6 to 8 while fishermen along and off Andaman and Nicobar Islands are advised not to venture into sea till Wednesday. Reports said that heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Tuesday in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Nandurbar, Dhule, Nasik and Jalgaon districts. NDRF teams are already on standby.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the nation that the government is continously monitoring the situation arising in various parts of the country due to Cyclone Ockhi.

The poll panel asked B B Swain to make "adequate, effective and fool-proof arrangements" for the smooth conduct of first phase polling for state Assembly elections on Saturday. Due to deep depression, the cyclone's speed is likely to reduce.

The rally of Modi can be again rescheduled on December 7, the party leader said. Even as cyclone Ockhi has now moved north of L&M islands, deployment of ships and aircraft are continuing in the area to search for the persons stranded at sea.

BJP leader Amit Shah's poll rallies scheduled on Tuesday in Rajula town of Amreli and Mahuva and Shihor of Bhavnagar district were cancelled, as were Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's rallies in Morbi, Dhrangadhra and Surendranagar. Schools in 16 villages in Ahmedabad will also stay closed on account of Cyclone Ockhi. Though Vaghela was supposed to reach Surat on Tuesday night, he dropped his plan due to the approaching cyclone.
