Apple releases iOS 11.2.1 update, fixes a bug in HomeKit

Apple releases iOS 11.2.1 update, fixes a bug in HomeKit

Apple's latest iOS 11.2.1 and tvOS 11.2.1 updates are now available for download. Apple has now reportedly fixed the issue with iOS 11.2.1, although the fix has not been mentioned it explicitly in its update log.

Tap "Software Update" and wait for iOS 11.2.1 to show. The updates fix a known remote sharing security vulnerability (CVE-2017-13903) affecting Apple's HomeKit framework for communicating with smart devices in your home. The flaw gave users unauthorised access to smart home accessories such as locks, garage and more in some situations. For now, this particular iOS 11.2 bug only affects users residing in the United States, given that the Apple Pay Cash feature is only accessible to limited areas. In its release notes, Apple says, "iOS 11.2.1 fixes bugs including an issue that could disable remote access to shared users of the Home app".

While Apple is rolling out new software updates on a regular basis, recently, its operating systems seem to be quite prone to security vulnerabilities. After installing the latest iOS update, the device displays the "Face ID is not available" prompt upon accessing the face unlock feature. Users should back up data before downloading the update. It is advisable to use a Wi-Fi connection to download the over-the-air update. Devices on beta versions may need to remove beta profiles then reboot to see the updates.

If your device is eligible to receive the iOS 11.2.2 or tvOS 11.2.1 updates, you can open the Settings, go to the General section, and access the Software Updates entry. There's also the usual bug fixes.
