Facebook will now let you temporarily mute a friend's posts

Facebook has launched a feature to let you temporarily hide annoying friends from your newsfeed.

You probably won't have noticed it yet but you can now find the button in the top-right drop-down menu of every post.

"We've heard from people that they want more options to determine what they see in News Feed and when they see it", Facebook Product Manager Shruthi Muraleedharan wrote in a blog Friday.

If you're exhausted of putting up with a particular person, group or page for a while, just click the menu in the upper right-hand corner of their latest post and click "Snooze" and you won't see anything from them for 30 days.

The people, pages, and groups you snooze won't be notified.

"With Snooze, you don't have to unfollow or unfriend permanently, rather just stop seeing someone's posts for a short period of time", they said.

They present both positive and negative research on social media and write about what Facebook is doing to combat the negatives and prioritize the positives. It turns out, you're not alone.

In case you change your mind about seeing their posts again, Facebook will notify you when the Snooze period is coming to an end. Facebook's algorithms are sophisticated, but they haven't overtaken us yet. "We also worry about spending too much time on our phones when we should be paying attention to our families". A new feature being rolled out by Facebook could help with that. Otherwise the most applicable scenerio for the function would be when you know that a particular friend/page/group usually spams your feed with a certain message in a particular season, the snoozing them would be ideal...
