Italian Brothers Beat Apple in Court, Allowed to Name Company 'Steve Jobs'

For those who thought Steve Jobs only refers to the flamboyant Apple CEO who also created the iPhone along with so much more are in for a pleasant surprise, there is also a clothing line going by the same name.

The company's Facebook page shows it makes jeans, T-shirts and bags, and carries a series of quotes from Jobs himself such as "Don't waste time living someone else's life".

The Verge reports: "After years of legal battles, a pair of brothers - Vincenzo and Giacomo Barbato - have successfully managed to win a legal battle against Apple, earning the right to call their company 'Steve Jobs, ' after Apple's iconic founder".

La Repubblica Napoli reports that the brother realised Apple had failed to trademark its founder's name, Steve Jobs, and chose to make use of the opportunity.

Despite Apple's attempts, the European courts have granted the brothers the right to use the name - and logo: a J with a bitten chunk and a leaf dotting it, in a familiar design.

Of course, Apple chose to sue them over the trademark and lost their fight in court.

Apple did, of course, challenge the branding, sending the brothers four huge folders of legal documents, but the EU's Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market rejected Apple's objection. However, for now, at least, the brothers are free to use both the name and the logo. The court decided that the brothers could use the "bite" mark on the "J" was not a bite because letters are not edible.

"We are working on a line of highly innovative electronic devices, projects we have been working on for years", they said in a statement.

Thanks to Steve Jobs, Apple is no longer just a fruit, nor is it only associated with Newton.
