Radiohead's Publisher Issues Statement On Lana Del Rey Copyright Dispute

Warner/Chappell has now issued a statement, which claims no lawsuit has been filed and Radiohead have not demanded all the publishing rights for Del Rey's song "Get Free". "Their lawyers have been relentless, so we will deal with it in court", she added. Radiohead meanwhile, ditched their original Brit Pop sounds as exemplified by "Creep", and reinvented themselves after lead singer Thom Yorke got really, really inspired by the IDM put out by influential electronic record label Warp.

A spokesperson for Warner/Chappell has now contradicted Del Rey's statements, claiming that while their lawyers had been in contact with Del Rey's team over the track, no legal action had yet been taken.

Meanwhile, Lana has cancelled her show in Kansas City after coming down with the flu.

It has been reported that the Radiohead team is hoping that the members "either receive compensation or be credited on the list of songwriters to receive royalties", but Lana stated in her tweet that they wanted to receive "100% of the publishing". The song "Get Free" is the last track on her 2017 album "Lust For Life".

"Fantano also goes on to note how Radiohead's "Creep" was originally sued itself for infringing upon the chord progression in The Hollies" "The Air That I Breathe". The band was said to want songwriting credit, money or both.

If Warner/Chappell's efforts are successful, Mr. Hazlewood and Mr. Hammond would also be credited, alongside the members of Radiohead and the three writers now listed: Rick Nowles, Kieron Menzies and Ms. Del Rey. Yet, there's legal limits to how much inspiration you can take, even if it's accidental.

It has to be said, there are similarities between the two songs.

Musician Owen Pallett observed that Radiohead's allegations are most likely to be based on the chord progression in the song's respective verses.
