Serena Williams says she had health scare after baby's birth

Motherhood has been a roller coaster for Serena, who welcomed Alexis in September with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Smoking, being overweight and obesity, and genetics are all factors that may cause blood clotting. After the C-section, though, she stopped taking them to allow the surgical wound to heal.

After the ultrasound turned up empty, doctor discovered several small blood clots in her lungs.

But that's not to be confused with the idea that Serena is anxious about reclaiming her spot as number one when she returns.

She was immediately given a drip, but when constant coughing from her pulmonary embolism opened up the scar from the c-section, her abdomen quickly filled with her now-thinned blood from the same drugs which were saving her life.

Williams has a history of blood clots, and had been taken off her daily anticoagulant after the C-section.

A filter was inserted into a major vein, in order to prevent more clots from traveling to her lungs.

Finally, a week after the birth, she returned to her Florida home.

Williams also revealed that her friends in the world of tennis have been very supportive of her since she announced her pregnancy.

The medical ordeal combined with new motherhood temporarily overwhelmed Williams.

"Serena works herself too hard", she said.

'That was an fantastic feeling, and then everything went bad, ' said Williams.

I've been trying to figure out who I'm going to pass the torch to. "No one talks about the low moments-the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry", she said.

Today, Williams is raising her daughter and has made a return to the tennis court.

'Or I'll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, "Why do I feel so sad when I have a attractive baby?" Tennis has not been far from her mind, either.

Serena pulled out of the Australian Open after losing a December exhibition match against Jelena Ostapenko in Abu Dhabi.

"It's not a secret I have my sights on 25", the star said, referencing her goal of setting a Grand Slam titles record. "I'm so glad I had a daughter". I'm not sure why we think that way, but I know that we're sometimes taught to not dream as big as men, not to believe we can be a president or a CEO, when in the same household, a male child is told he can be anything he wants.
